Een klassieker op de sporen van de mijnwerkers

Treed in de voetsporen van de mijnwerkers, begeleid door onze gids. Elke dag daalden ze af in de ingewanden van de aarde om het zwarte goud te ontginnen, de steenkool die Wallonië rijk maakte in de 19e eeuw en de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw. De 3D-film “Van industriële revolutie tot werelderfgoed” dompelt bezoekers onder in het buitengewone avontuur van de industrialisatie. Vanaf de toegangspoort tot de oude kolenmijn kun je de dagelijkse routine van de mijnwerkers volgen, van de loge tot het belastingkantoor, via de hangkamer en de lampenkamer. De bovengrondse installaties, met hun emblematische wielframes (of kopframes), geven je een idee van hoe de mijn werkte, hoe de mijnwerkers werkten en werpen vooral een licht op de omstandigheden rond de tragedie van 8 augustus 1956, die het leven kostte aan 262 mannen van 12 verschillende nationaliteiten. n de interactieve zaal op de ramp van 8 augustus 1956, ook gewijd aan de Italiaanse immigratie, wordt een emotionele film vertoond met getuigenissen van voormalige mijnwerkers en reddingswerkers. De tour gaat verder met een bezoek aan de reddingswagen en de reconstructie van een naoorlogse woning voor gastarbeiders. In 2012 werd het Bois du Cazier opgenomen op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO vanwege zijn authenticiteit en integriteit. In 2018 kreeg het het label Europees Erfgoed omdat zijn geschiedenis verweven is met die van de opbouw van een sociaal Europa.
