Miraculeusement retrouvé par Richard Mageren, un amoureux des anciens camions, qui nous l’a ensuite généreusement offert, le Dodge (1955) de la Centrale de Sauvetage de Marcinelle, patiemment restauré et rééquipé, revient sur les lieux de sa première intervention.
Le camion Dodge (1955) est intervenu lors de la catastrophe. Retrouvé en piteux état, il vient de faire l’objet d’une restauration minutieuse. Grand absent en 1996, apparitions timides en 2006 lors de la visite royale et pendant le son et lumière, le camion de la Centrale de Sauvetage de l’Industrie Charbonnière des Bassins de Charleroi et de la Basse-Sambre fait enfin son grand retour en 2016 sur les lieux qui, en 1956, virent sa première intervention, le carreau du Charbonnage du Bois du Cazier.
Point névralgique et logistique pour les sauveteurs bravant la mine en feu, ce véhicule parut à l’époque sur nombre de photographies. Il poursuivit ensuite sa carrière plus discrètement jusqu’à la fermeture de la Centrale de Sauvetage de Marcinelle, consécutive à l’arrêt en septembre 1984 du dernier charbonnage wallon, le Roton à Farciennes. Vendu à un collectionneur, il s’évanouit alors dans la nature pour réapparaître vingt-deux ans plus tard quand, en mars 2006, Richard Mageren, après l’avoir retrouvé dans une pâture du côté de Verviers, nous proposa non seulement de le «rapatrier», mais aussi de nous en faire don.
Nettoyage, dépoussiérage, neutralisation de la rouille, dégrippage et démontage des éléments mobiles comme les portes des coffres latéraux, débosselage, masticage et mise en peinture, traitement des chromes, polissage de la carrosserie, travaux de menuiserie et de sellerie pour les garnitures intérieures lui ont rendu, si pas le lustre d’antan, au moins un certain éclat pour la rendre digne de son passé.
Le véhicule sera présenté dans les réserves où un espace spécifique, accessible au public, lui sera dédié et aménagé. Une scénographie reposant notamment sur des photographies d’époque, le remettant en situation, ainsi que sur son rééquipement par du matériel utilisé par les sauveteurs sera réalisée. En guise d’hommage, cette scénographie prévoira aussi une évocation de ces sauveteurs.
